2014 PAIRS

The CCDWBA Pairs Championship concluded today at Gosford City Bowling Club in an exciting final played between Arleen Jackson and Rosemary Finch  from Bateau Bay and  Alma Schofield and Denise Ellison from The Entrance.  69 entries were received from clubs all over the Central Coast.  Matches were played at Avoca Beach, Bateau Bay, Ettalong, Gosford City, Halekulani and The Entrance over 4 days from 10th to 14th February.

Some very close games were played leading up to the final, some extra ends were required to decide matches. And some matches were won by 1 shot on extra ends.  A truly great championship hotly contested by all.

To reach the final Arleen Jackson and Rose Finch won their semi final by one shot after playing an extra deciding end against Tracey Osborne and Lauren Williams from Ettalong Memorial.

The final was played under dull weather conditions, but the match was far from dull. The score was very even for half the match but by the 11th end Denise and Alma led 10 – 5.  Rosemary and Arleen were not giving in and made their opponents work hard for every end and every shot.  On the 14th end Denise and Alma won 4 shots to make the score 15 – 6.  By the 17th end the score stood at 17 – 7 to The Entrance duo.  The 2 skips decided not to play the final end and the match was eventually won by Denise and Alma convincingly.  Great bowls by all.

Presentations to the players were made by District President Pat. She also thanked all District Personnel for another successful event and thanked Gosford Women's Club for their hospitality.

President Pam Russ from The Entrance congratulated her girls and their opposition and thanked all involved for a successful championship.  Rose Finch responded for Bateau Bay and reiterated Pam’s sentiments.

Some very happy ladies left to go home to their clubs to celebrate a great win and a great contest.

Congratulations to all who participated.
