2015 REGION 6 PENNANT PLAYOFFS

The Region 6 Pennant Playoffs were held at The Entrance Bowling Club on Monday 18th May. Players from Central Coast and Lake Macquarie fought it out to see who would go through to the State Pennant Playoffs in August.
There was great excitement and anticipation by the players and their many supporters. It was an overcast day when they went out to play and as the morning progressed fine rain began to fall but this did not dampen their spirits. With very vocal encouragement from the huge crowd all Grades performed to their best ability resulting in some very dramatic finishes.
In Grade 1 it was Ettalong Memorial versus Charlestown. From about half way through the match it was very close with some tremendous bowls being played by both sides. One rink finished 2 ends ahead of the other, this put the pressure on the remaining rink. After the overall 42 ends were played it was 35 apiece. Therefore an extra end had to be played. What a cliffhanger. Ettalong getting 3 shots to win 38 to 35. What an exciting match.
In Grade 2 Wyong played Charlestown. Again a very exciting match with great bowls played. Wyong won 38 to 31.
Not to be outdone, Grade 3 Davistown RSL and Swansea Workers were having a great battle and after they had completed their overall 42 ends we had another drawn match at 31 apiece. An extra end had to be played to determine the winner and Davistown RSL came out in front with a 34 to 31 victory.
Grade 4 was also a very close match between Halekulani and Belmont. The spectators were certainly sitting on the edges of their seats with Halekulani winning 37 to 35.
What close matches all round and it was certainly great for the spectators, if a little 'nail biting' for the players.
Our congratulations to all players from both Central Coast and Lake Macquarie for great bowling.
The winners now go on to the State Playoffs to be held in the South Coast District from 17th to 21st August.
