2013 SINGLES
The 2013 District Singles commenced on Monday 13th May. Venues being Umina Beach and Halekulani. Tuesday's matches scheduled for Gwandalan had to be abandoned due to rain and these matches were then rescheduled for Bateau Bay on Thursday 16th May. This also meant the Semi-final was rescheduled for Friday a.m. followed by the final the same day, the venue being changed to Umina Beach.
The weather prevailed, although there was some rain at Bateau Bay on the Thursday but luckily both matches were completed. There were some very close matches.
Quarter final winners were:

Lyn Morton[Everglades] def. Sue Ryan[Bateau Bay]
Elizabeth Lochte[Terrigal] def. Diane Rhedey[Halekulani]
Friday at Umina Beach saw sunny skies with a cool breeze. It was great to see the spectators who came to support their ladies. The semi-finals produced some great bowling.
Lyn Morton defeated Elizabeth Lochte with some lovely bowls and the score didn't really depict the match. Lyn won 26 to 12. Well done to both these ladies.
The match between Margaret Smith and Deirdre Windshuttel was a very close fought encounter with the lead changing many times. They were all level at 21 then Margaret got a 3 to make it 24 to 21 however looking at game down on the next end Deirdre came in with her last bowl to get the shot thus going to 22. She also won the next end to make her 23. Margaret held fast and managed to get the shot she needed to win 25 to 23. Congratulations to both on superb bowling.
The scene was now set for an all Everglades final. On checking the records the last time both finalists in the Singles were from the same club was in 1980 when The Entrance had the two ladies in the final.
Margaret got off to a good start and shot ahead. Lyn gradually found her range and started the chase. Great bowling from both ladies was witnessed. On the day Margaret came out the winner 27 to 9 but the score didn't really depict the game. Congratulations to Margaret, who was last year's runner up and well done to Lyn for reaching your first District Singles final.
