2013 GRADE 2 FLAG UNFURLING
Bateau Bay had their Grade 2 Flag unfurling on Thursday 23rd February. Unfortunately the weather was not kind and forced the ceremony inside but this did not deter from the event.
Bateau Bay President Liz Cohen welcome District President Pat Frewin, Region 6 Representative Lesley Swales, District Match Representative Robyne Cosgrove, Wyong players [who were the runners up] and her own Bateau Bay players and members.
After morning tea District President Pat was asked to unfurl the Grade 2 Pennant Flag. Improvisation was used with the flag being attached to hooks at the back of the stage and as President Pat pulled the string, the flag unfurled downwards. Well done. The Bateau Bay players were then presented with their badges, certificates and photos taken on the day they won the flag. Then it was Wyong runners up turn to receive their certificates and photos.
As rain prevented bowls we filled in the morning 'taxing our brains' with a trivia quiz. Great fun was had by all. We then vacated the auditorium while it was prepared for the luncheon. All members were then called back to the auditorium and when ready the Grade 2 winners were lead into the room by Dist.Pres.Pat and Regional Rep. Lesley while District Match rep. Robyne lead in the runners up.
After lunch the skips of both the Bateau Bay and the Wyong sides were asked to cut the Grade 2 Pennant cake.
Bateau Bay were also celebrating their 48th Birthday. Pres. Liz read out a short history of how the club has evolved over this time and it brought back memories for many present. Pres.Liz then asked Dist.Pres.Pat and Gayle Mackie to join her in cutting the birthday cake. Gayle made both the birthday and G2 pennant cakes. Happy Birthday was sung to Bateau Bay club.
After the raffles were drawn Pres.Liz thanked all for coming and the day finished with the National Anthem.
