2013 Challenge Cup

Everglades, who were last years winners, were the host venue for this annual event.    Everglades President Pat Walsh welcomed District President Pat and committees and wished all a happy day.    District President Pat then welcomed the teams from 20 clubs throughout the district.   These ladies had been selected to represent their clubs.   The criteria was that the 4 players must have played in Grade 4 or be equivalent to Grade 4 players this year.

After morning tea it was out to the greens.   Two games were played.  One of 13 ends and one of 12 ends.   The winners were determined by number of wins, then ends, then aggregate score.       Weatherwise it was overcast with rain threatening but conditions on the green were good.   However as the morning progressed the wind came up and this made life a little difficult for the players.     The rain held off until the games were completed which all were very thankful for.

Some great bowling was witnessed and it was great to see the supporters there to cheer on their players.

The results were very close.     There were 4  two game winners so it came down to ends.

The winners were:

WAMBERAL   with  2 wins,     18 ends and 32 shots.    Congratulaltions to Margaret Hickman, Susan Staples, Lesley Mason and Denise Gosling.

Runners up were:

WOY WOY with 2 wins,  17 ends and 35 shots.    Well done to Christine Gentle, Toni Kerney, Dawn Haworth and Gayle Wise.

District President Pat presented the Challenge Cup to Wamberal and individual trophies to the players and to the Club.  Thelma Hutchinson, a past District President, donated the Challenge Cup in  1997

Wamberal had won this event previously in 2007 and 2009 and will be the host venue for next years event.

All those who participated had a lovely day and it was great to see the friendly way the matches were played.
