2013 Nepean Trophy

We won back the Nepean Trophy after losing it last year.  40 selected players from Avoca Beach, Bateau Bay, Ettalong Memorial, Everglades, Terrigal, The Entrance, Umina Beach and Wyong clubs formed our side to do battle with the Nepean District for the Nepean Trophy at Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club on Friday 20 September.

President Pat Frewin and her District Committee welcomed our visitors from Nepean led by President Nancy Willmington and the ladies from the Nepean clubs of Austral, Camden, Springwood, Kingswood, St Marys, Wallacia, Penrith, Glenbrook, Richmond and Windsor.

Morning tea was served and enjoyed before the cards were read by Chair of Selection Beryl Brown.  All then proceeded to the greens – let the games begin!

After a slow start, in very good conditions, our ladies began to inch ahead.  The greens were fast and testing - and then came the rain.  Just a little rain, but a small reminder that we were not in charge of the weather.  Central Coast maintained a steady but narrow lead when the weather changed again and the wind arrived.  Nepean closed the gap somewhat, enough for us to realise that we had not won yet and there was quite a way to go!  Our ladies kept that scoreboard ticking over enough to keep our hopes high that we would this year win the coveted trophy.  Conditions became trying as the wind became stronger and bowls did not behave as their owners wished.

At last after 220 ends were completed the Central Coast emerged the victors with a score of  217 to 185.  Winning on 6 of the 10 rinks.  A fantastic effort from our ladies to battle the conditions and hold off the very determined and skilled bowlers from Nepean.

Ettalong Memorial Club hosted a delicious lunch which was enjoyed with our new and old friends, after which Patron and Chair of Selection Beryl Brown officially announced Central Coast to be the winning side.  President Nancy from Nepean congratulated the Central Coast on our win and thanked us for our hospitality and friendship.  She then handed over the trophy to our President Pat and invited us to visit Nepean next September to once again play this prestigious event and continue the tradition of the Nepean Trophy which has been played for on an annual basis since 1982.
