2014 CENTRAL COAST .v. A.C.T.

The Central Coast – A.C.T. Challenge was played over 2 days, 18th and 19th January, in conjunction with the Quadrangular Series played by the Zone 15 Men.  Golden Hind Women’s Bowling Club provided their club facilities for the event and their  hospitality was superb.  Nothing was a trouble for them.   The Central Coast weather came to the party to make the weekend just perfect.

Our  16 players were selected from our 23 clubs and formed into 4 teams skipped by Rose Finch, Gwen Hardwick , Tracey Ward, and Margaret Smith (Avoca).    A.C.T’s teams were skipped by Sharon Harmer, Margaret Bacchetto, Nicole Mengel and Ruth Moore.

On Saturday, after the official morning tea and welcome the cards were read and battle commenced.       2 games of 21 ends were played on the first day, and 1 game of 21 ends played on the following day.      Event  to be decided on overall wins,  if equal ends,  then aggregate score.

Central Coast began slowly, however by the end of the morning match our girls were in front on the scoreboard with  3 Wins to A.C.T’s 1.

Lunch must have been too good because the A.C.T. stormed back in the afternoon session to equal our girls.    After day one it was 4 Wins apiece.   It was clear Central Coast would need to win on 3 rinks the next morning to secure victory.

Sunday dawned bright and sunny with a slight breeze, just right for the decider.  Games see-sawed and the players kept us on the edge of our seats.  Great bowls were countered with even greater bowls.  Three rinks completed their 21 ends  with Central Coast winning on 2 and A.C.T. on 1. It came down to the final rink still playing.   With one end to play the ladies built the suspense, the game could have gone either way it was that close.    However Central Coast managed to win this rink and therefore gave overall victory to the Central Coast . Well done to bowlers from both sides and well done officials.  The weekend was a huge success.

The final result was

Central Coast      7 wins,    132 ends,   252 shots and

A.C.T.     5 wins, 120 ends, 225 shots.
