2014 SINGLES

The District Singles commenced Monday 19th May at Umina Beach, Ettalong and Diggers at the Entrance, continuing Tuesday at The Entrance.   Some great bowls were witnessed with very close matches.   Woy Woy Bowling club was the venue for the Semi-finals and final.   The weather was again perfect.

The Semi Finals were played in the morning between Karen Croker (Avoca Beach) and Lyn Morton (Everglades), and Pat Neal (Umina Beach) and Edna Murray (The Entrance). Both matches enthralled the spectators and culminated in wins to Karen and Edna.   Congratulations to all these ladies for reaching the semi’s.

After lunch the two finalists took to the green to decide the 2014 Singles Champion of our district.

Karen won the toss and so rolled the jack. The score was even for the first few ends, but then Karen steadily forged ahead. Edna staged a small comeback but Karen finished strongly to reach the magic 25 first. The final score was Karen Croker 25 – Edna Murray 12.

Neither Karen nor Edna have ever played in the District Semi Finals or Final before today. This was certainly not evident by their performances throughout the competition. Karen had recently been Runner-Up to her mother in their club championships, but today she went one better than Mum and claimed the District Championship.

Two tired, but happy ladies retired to the clubhouse for the official presentation by VP Sue O’Connor. Who presented Karen with the winner’s badge. Both Karen and Edna thanked their opposition throughout the tournament and congratulated each other on their performances.  Well done.
