2014 DISTRICT TRIPLES

The State Triples at District level commenced on Monday 16th June at Halekulani, Bateau Bay, Avoca Beach and Everglades.   52 teams contested the event.    There were some surprises with some of the top teams eliminated early.    It was great to see some 'new faces' emerging.   Golden Hind and Wamberal were the venues on Tuesday with some great bowls being witnessed and again some surprise victories.

Quarter finals:

Ann Middleton, Lauren Williams, Tracy Osborne [Ettalong Mem.]  def. Margaret Harrison, Fay Feros, Judy Henderson [Wyong]

Sonia Geddes, Helen Austin, Claire Hoban [Munmorah Utd]  def. Margaret Oliver, Julie Grant, Janice Hiron [The Entrance]

Sharon Croker, Alma Schofield, Denise Ellison [The Entrance]  def. Dianne Brown, Sandra Wynn, Connie Goddard [Gwandalan]

Marilyn Last, Eileen Fitzgerald, Faith Wathelet [Wyong] def. Kaye Arnott, Carol Ross, Sandra Anderson [Gosford City]

The Semi-finals and final were played at Davistown RSL on Thursday 19th.    Another sunny day and it was lovely to see all the spectators come to cheer on their appropriate team.       What great bowls they witnessed.

The Semi-finals saw Tracy Osborne's team defeat Claire Hoban's team and Denise Ellison's team defeat Faith Wathelet's team in some very exciting matches.

What a very exciting final with both teams playing great bowls and the score even throughout.  Tracey's team managed to forge ahead but then Denise's team fought back to within a couple of shots.   Eventually Tracey's team just got that little bit of an edge and took out the title.  Some very tired but excited ladies as it was the first time that they had won the Triples title.   Congratulations to all the players.

WINNERS:

Ann Middleton, Lauren Williams, Tracy Osborne [Ettalong Memorial]

RUNNERS UP:

Sharon Croker, Alma Schofield, Denise Ellison [The Entrance]

The winners now go on to the Regional playoffs to be held at Halekulani Bowling Club on Monday 4th August against Lake Macquarie.   The winners of this event then go to the State Playoffs in October at Tuncurry.   We wish our ladies good bowling for the Regional playoffs.
